Simon Best

Simon is involved in design procedures and the Defence, Civic, Education and Sporting portfolios in the Swanbury Penglase office.  He has been practicing since 1993, in which time he has had experience at all scales of construction and practice size, and with various design and construction procurement models.

Simon’s commitment to quality design outcomes was born from an artistic aptitude matched with a desire to build. Early experience working alongside construction teams on large projects taught an appreciation for the entire construction delivery process.  He believes in a holistic design approach, inspired by successful product design, industrial design, sustainability, structural efficiency, and learning from the trades.

Simon holds firm convictions about the necessity of a triple bottom-line approach to sustainability, paring the process and product back to essential guiding principles.

Out of office hours, Simon enjoys cycling, bushwalking, travel, and has travelled widely. With any spare time, (rare, with a young son), he also enjoys reading, painting and time at the beach.
