Scrub and Serenity – Interiors

Situated on the edge of a floodway and within a short stroll to the beach, mature eucalyptus gums line the northern perimeter of the site providing a transition with the floodway and shade from the summer heat. Nestled on the low side of the hill, the block is protected from the strong winter winds providing a unique rural costal experience.

The home is created via a series of elevated ‘pods’ linked with an interconnecting passageway / breezeway, with the largest pod positioned to capture and create the communal living experience essential to a holiday environment. This living area with its extended external space has primary position on the site to capture the northern aspect and to maximise the penetration of sunlight during winter. The cantilevered balcony extending the outdoor living space into and amongst the canopy of gum trees.

A careful balance between relaxed holiday style and sophisticated urban chic, the aim of the interior was to maximise impact from a deliberately limited finishes palette so as to not generate unnecessary visual clutter. Concrete and blackbutt timber are the heroes throughout, offset with either black, white or grey for the remaining internal elements.

Refined details like the shark-nose profile solid timber top to the island bench contrast the more practical stainless steel finish to the rear bench while maintaining the same edge profile. Black and white 2-pac paint joinery match wall colours and window frames. Hand-made feature lights with gold foil interior from Christopher Boots in Melbourne above the island bench add luxury and sophistication to this retreat.

Furniture has been selected to be stylish, comfortable and easy to maintain and where appropriate able to move between inside and outside when required.

Significant storage has been provided throughout, from the custom wardrobes in all bedrooms to a generous walk-in pantry, ensuring everything you need is at your fingertips without it being on display.

Scrub and serenity, the perfect antidote to a busy life.
